"I am a retired fisherman, I still feel a need to be connected with the sea and nature in general.

I walk every day along the tide line and collect detritus that has been washed up. I place these objects in a box format.

The subjects I choose are varied, often a single found item provides the starting point, I expand upon this, making a visual diary.

Surrealism is an underlying motif in my work.

The items I use have been on a voyage, no-one knows where they have come from, they have no significance unless rescued and housed. The detritus I utilise in my work is given a new and often romantic/poetic life. Hence the title Journey's end."

World Book Night

World Book Night represents the most ambitious and far-reaching celebration of adult books and reading ever attempted in the UK and Ireland.

On Saturday, 5 March 2011, two days after World Book Day, with the full support of the Publishers Association, the Booksellers Association, the Independent Publishers Guild, the Reading Agency with libraries, World Book Day, the BBC and RTE, one million books will be given away by an army of passionate readers to members of the public across the UK and Ireland.

The book give-away will comprise 40,000 copies of each of the 25 carefully selected titles, to be given away by 20,000 'givers', who will each distribute 48 copies of their chosen title to whomever they choose on World Book Night. The remaining books will be distributed by World Book Night itself in places that might otherwise be difficult to reach, such as prisons and hospitals.

The twenty-five titles were selected by a wide-ranging editorial committee, chaired by James Naughtie.

We are giving away 48 copies of Rohinton Mistry's "A Fine Balance" in the shop on Saturday the 5th. This is one of my favourite books. So please pop in to collect a copy and help to spread the love of a good book.

The Discerning Eye Exhibition

Mall Galleries SW1 London

'Grow Your Own'

Reclaimed Fabric Sculpture

Selected by Peter Bowles-Actor and Art Collector

The ING Discerning Eye Exhibition is a show of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from different areas of the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics. Work is selected from open submission and also from artists invited by the individual selectors. Each section is hung separately to emphasise its own distinctive identity. The impression emerges of six small exhibitions within the whole. It provides an unusual opportunity for works by lesser-known artists to be hung alongside contributions from internationally recognised names.
